“February 14th, Valentine’s Day, is about romance. But February 13th, Galentine’s Day, is about celebrating lady friends. It’s wonderful and it should be a national holiday.” -Leslie Knope
Valentine’s Day is a funny holiday. Some people (mostly in relationships) love it, some people (both in relationships and not) hate it… and a whole lot of people are indifferent to it. But Galentine’s Day is a different story – at least for me! Despite what’s going on in your life, friendships are always worth celebrating. So, tell your besties to mark their calendars for February 13th and let’s plan a party! There are NO rules when it comes to Galentine’s, but here are 3 staples that any group of friends can have some fun with…
Everyone knows that Valentine’s Day is a big day for chocolate and candy, so you can’t skimp on Galentine’s Day either! I love putting out a few slices of homemade flourless chocolate cake, heart shaped chocolates and candies on the table before the guests arrive. Leave a bunch of forks on the table and let everyone grab bites as they want! Girls can be shy about wanting/asking for a full slice, but just about everyone wants a bite… and if you’re all close enough to be Galentine’s, you’re close enough to share a piece of cake, right?
You could do anything from mimosas to rose to this ruby red colored cocktail! Garnish with a strawberry on the rim or drop pomegranate arils right in the glass for a little festive flair. Not into cocktails? How cute is this pink hot chocolate?
These can be as girly/non-girly as you like… although let’s be real – this is definitely an excuse to be as dorky as you want. Here are a few of my favorite ideas:
Watch the Galantine’s episodes of Parks & Recreation (Romantic comedies will do the trick, too!)
